Though not available in the “stable” release of CyanogenMod ROM (one of the most popular after-market, open-source custom ROM’s) the nightly-build of CyanogenMod for the Google Nexus One has been updated to finally enable the FM radio that’s been sitting unused inside the phone all this time.
What’s more, this isn’t the HTC radio that’s present in other phones. Rather, The developers behind the MIUI ROM (a ROM similar to CyanogenMod) started from scratch to write their own open-source radio.
Would the Nexus One ever have seen an official FM Radio if it weren’t for the open-source community? Most likely not, especially considering that the Nexus One has been officially discontinued by Google.
Good work to the numerous developers who contributed to this project. We’re all thankful to have you working with us!
