The issue of the iPhone quietly tracking location data and storing it in a location log is likely to be fixed in the upcoming platform refresh for Apple iOS, possibly version 4.3.3 or 4.4.
The information comes from Apple critic John Gruber and the issue is considered to be a bug or an omission rather than a secret feature or conspiracy. The file collecting the information is acting like a cache which is not cleared either because of a bug or an oversight. While Apple didn’t comment on the situation a fix will probably be released at the time the next iOS 4.3.3 or 4.4 will be released for iPhones.
