Motorola is on a roll when it comes to Android updates this week, getting the long-overdue Gingerbread update out to the Droid Pro, and delivering a maintenance update to the Photon 4G. Now it continues that trend with an update for the XPRT on Sprint, but it may be not quite what you were hoping for.

After all, the XPRT is essentially just a Droid Pro with Sprint’s name on it, so you might (quite reasonably) be expecting this model to be getting the Gingerbread treatment as well. No such luck this time; the XPRT is staying on Froyo for the moment, and the update that Sprint has announced is more of the bug-fix variety.

So what’s new? A voicemail bug related to changing your phone number has been corrected, as has the phone’s behavior when trying to dial voice calls internationally. Sprint doesn’t make with the details, but it notes changes have been made to the XPRT’s CDMA settings (for the better, we assume). Messaging will get a few tweaks, thanks to improved support for chaining long SMS messages and better visual feedback on the status of replied-to emails.

Sprint estimates it should take only about seven minutes to install the update, so what are you waiting for? Check to see if there are any system updates available on your XPRT and get installing!

Motorola has committed to releasing Gingerbread for the XPRT eventually, but we don’t yet know when to expect it.
