Motorola’s MOTOACTV is one of the most interesting accessories you can pair-up with your smartphone, if only because it’s actually running Android itself. While you won’t see anything resembling a traditional Android experience without doing a bit of hacking, Motorola keeps the watch outfitted with all the custom software you’ll need to keep track of your fitness goals. The company announced last month that it had a pretty big update in the works for the MOTOACTV, planned for release today. Unfortunately, it looks like some last-minute issues have come up, forcing Motorola to delay the software’s release until Friday.
A major component of the update is the added support for new activities; the watch uses its motion sensors to get an idea of how you’re moving about, and by telling it what those actions entail, it can better keep track of your performance over time. Following the update, MOTOACTV will gain support for yoga, dancing, martial arts all told, there will be more than forty new activities ready to be tracked.
Besides the new activity support, there are a couple other nice changes in store. You’ll be able to power-on the MOTOACTV with a flick of your wrist, as well as configure WiFi access directly from the watch itself.
Assuming there are no more delays, look for the new MOTOACTV software to arrive this Friday, March 9.
