Over the weekend, we told you about a soak test starting up for the Android Gingerbread update to the Motorola Atrix 4G. That’s great to hear, especially considering how the Atrix has been around for a while now, but not every Motorola need wait so long for its 2.3 update; the Droid X2 has been rocking Froyo since its debut in May, but signs now point to it, too, soon getting Gingerbread OTA.
As with the Atrix, Motorola is running another wide-deployment test for a new Droid X2 update. From the leaked email regarding the Atrix testing, it was clear we were dealing with Gingerbread, but the situation is less cut-and-dry in this case. The only description Motorola has given is that this is the “Droid X2 July 2011 update soak”, without explanation of its contents.
Obviously, the Droid X2 is going to get Gingerbread eventually, but will this be the update to bring it? In the past, there’s usually been at least some indication what one of these soak tests would contain; then again, maybe Motorola’s keeping this low-key because it knows how eagerly-awaited Gingerbread is and wants to give Droid X2 owners a nice surprise? One way or the other, we should start finding out very shortly, as the update starts to arrive with the first testers.
