Earlier this month, we saw a Motorola Droid RAZR variant destined for release in China that featured a couple design changes from the original handset, but looked like it would retain the same hardware specs. A closer look at China’s RAZR offerings is now available, revealing that Motorola has beefed-up the handset with the addition of a 13-megapixel camera, as well as one version with a 720p screen.
The phone we saw was the MT917 (above, center), the TD-SCDMA version of the RAZR. It’s joined by the XT928, which will run on China’s CDMA2000 network. Whereas the MT917 looked like a RAZR with rounded corners, the XT928 (above, left) features a more squared-off appearance. Both smartphones are being equipped with 13-megapixel image sensors, in addition to the dual-flash upgrade we already saw on the MT917.
Beyond just the higher-resolution camera, we’re also hearing now that the MT917 has gotten a display upgrade, moving from the RAZR’s 4.3-inch qHD to a 4.5-inch 720p screen. All of a sudden, this RAZR variant just got a whole lot more attractive.
Sadly, there’s not much hope of seeing either camera-enhanced RAZR released outside of China. Engadget speculates that the XT928 might end up as the Droid X3 someday, but there’s really not any evidence to corroborate that theory at the moment. China, at last, should get both Androids within the next few months.
