It turns out that the Droid Pro and Droid 2 Global, both world phones, can support the 850/1900 UMTS bands. That means that if you can unlock either of these devices, you can slip in your AT&T SIM card, and use it as if they were native to the AT&T network. In this past, this has successfully been achieved with the Verizon Touch Pro2, the Tour, and several others. This is great news for those that are on AT&T that want to be able to use either of these two devices, but naturally, it’s going to cost you. You can either buy the devices directly from Verizon and try to get them to unlock it for you (typically they’ll do so if you’ve been a customer for longer than six months), or you can buy it already unlocked from a retailer like Negri Electronics.
