Like its World Edition sibling, Verizon’s Motorola Droid 2 R2-D2 Edition is said to sport a speedy 1.2GHz OMAP processor, according to a tipster for the Boy Genius Report. The original Droid 2 is equipped with a 1GHz processor, which itself is an improvement over the first Droid’s 600MHz CPU. Some reports have the World Edition replacing the regular D2 in Verizon’s lineup, but apparently the R2-D2 model is a limited edition handset only, with participating stores receiving a reported supply of 200, non-replenishable units.
What’s more, there seems to be a themed event going down at these stores on September 29th at midnight, with DJ’s, video games, giveaways, and costumed Stormtroopers on hand. For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Star Wars is a space-based fantasy epic conceived by George Lucas and portrayed on the big screen by way of six separate films. R2-D2 is a helpful robot — or droid — of few words who forms somewhat of a comedy team with another robot named C-3PO, while the Stormtroopers are soldiers who shoot lasers and wear imposing white masks.
