Motorola continues to work on its promise to release Gingerbread updates for most of its Droid models, with the Droid 2 Global getting its attention most recently. After hearing that Verizon was looking to do one last soak test before releasing the code, it seemed like the update would soon be here. Then, on Wednesday, Verizon announced it was finally starting mass distribution of the update, going out in batches for OTA installation. Everything seemed fine, so far, until a Motorola employee spoke up on the Droid 2 Global’s support forum, calling Verizon’s announcement premature and clarifying that the update is not yet being distributed.

In response to posts from all the D2G users wondering when Verizon would get around to sending them their updates, the forum manager posted, “I’m not sure where the confusion is coming from, but the tweets being posted here appear to be premature. The Droid 2 Global update is not rolling out at this time. Sorry for misinformation – we are looking into it. (And no, I can’t give you any information on when)”.

So, just what is going on here? Could the Verizon employee managing the company’s Twitter presence have received some bad information? Did he or she confuse the limited public testing of the update with its widespread release? As recently as half an hour ago, Verizon’s still tweeting like the update is in full-swing. We’re clearly not yet privy to the whole story here. Hopefully Verizon will comment on Motorola’s denial shortly, and finally put this business to rest.
