We recently told you about a Motorola employee recently spouted off when asked about their strict bootloader policy: “buy elsewhere, we’ll continue with our strategy that is working thanks”.
Apparently some upper-levels in Motorola didn’t like the bad press they were getting from this comment and apologized via a comment on Facebook:
“We apologize for the feedback we provided regarding our bootloader policy. The response does not reflect the views of Motorola.
“We are working closely with our partners to offer a bootloader solution that will enable developers to use our devices as a development platform while still protecting our users’ interests. More detailed information will follow as we get closer to availability.”
Unfortunately, they still doesn’t get it. Motorola still thinks that unlocking phones and installing custom ROMs is something that only developers do — not end-users like you and I.
In any event, it’s progress, and, on behalf of power-users, we accept Motorola’s apology — and encourage them to see beyond their “developers” argument.
