A leaked Costco screenshot from last week made it look like the retailer would be receiving its stock of Samsung Droid Charge 4G smartphones today, with explicit instructions not to start selling any of them until tomorrow, May 3. At the bottom of that shot was a line we largely glossed over, reading, “confirmation of a revised launch date will be sent Monday.” Costco was wise to warn its employees to look for an update today, as it now appear that further delays have crept up, and though a new launch date isn’t yet available, it’s clear that it won’t be May 3.
Presumably, Costco stores received their shipments of the Droid as scheduled today, but Verizon has yet to give the go-ahead for sales. After all, today’s screenshot emphasizes that these smartphones not so much as even be put up for display until Verizon gets its own launch together.
Hopefully, whoever has been leaking these images will be back at it tomorrow, as Costco intends to have further information on-hand and will be disseminating it to its stores. It feels like that update could include a new release date, as that’s the only information really missing from what the company’s revealed so far. Considering Verizon’s LTE network has been up since late last week, it’s odd to see the Charge still being withheld from sales; tomorrow could finally provide us with an update as to when the carrier plans to follow-through with the launch.
