HTC tweeted today that the two Desire models are about to receive an update that would “make your mobile experience even better”. The ambiguous wording of the promise made us start wondering if this couldn’t be a little Android 2.3 treat just in time for the holidays. Apparently, we weren’t the only ones exploring that possibility, as HTC responded shortly thereafter to clarify.
In a follow-up tweet, the manufacturer revealed that the update is to be a collection of maintenance fixes, and was unequivocal that Gingerbread is not part of the package. As for just what sort of fixes are in store, HTC didn’t elaborate with any specifics, but did say that these patches are in response to user reports. At the least, that means you can look forward to fixes with real-world implications, rather than esoteric, under-the-hood system changes.
The updates for the Desire HD and Desire Z start going out today on European cell networks.
