LG and AT&T are preparing the Optimus A, the carrier variant of the LG Optimus One which sold one million units worldwide in the first 40 days. AT&T’s version is announced as the second million has been sold in less than a month (24 days to be more precise). Optimus A will be available starting early next year and looks like it will cost no more than $50 on contract.

There’s no doubt about the handset’s popularity now more than ever as the manufacturer announced it will be upgrading the device to Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Sporting a modest 600MHz processor, the Optimus One comes in different operator flavors: Metro PCS Optimus M, US Cellular Optimus U, Sprint Optimus S, T-Mobile Optimus T, Verizon LG Vortex and now, the AT&T Optimus A to make the carrier list complete.
