Sprint ended up finally getting the LG Optimus Black in the form of the LG Marquee. Back before we first heard the name Marquee, though, we had matched the handset’s model number up with variations for a whole bunch of US carriers. What we didn’t have were names for all those others; would they launch as the Black, as the Marquee, or with new identities altogether? It seems that the latter will be the case, at least according to some new evidence we’ve found, lending names to a couple of these mystery Blacks.
Besides the Marquee, we had been expecting to see the Black arrive at US Cellular, Alltel, and Virgin, as tipped-off by the existence of model numbers US855, AS855, and VM855 in addition to the Marquee’s LS855.
The compatibility listing for a case accessory designed for the Marquee clues us in to these new names. As you can see below, it appears that the Alltel version of the phone will be the LG Ignite, and the US Cellular edition will be known as the LG Majestic. We’re still not sure what to expect from the Virgin Mobile model, but perhaps its absence from this list indicates plans to release it have been scrapped (or that its design will be different enough to require its own accessories)?
