Just-leaked pictures of a new LG Android smartphone, identified only as the “B”, offer a glimpse at some extremely impressive-looking hardware, with a case thinner than even the iPhone 4 and a screen of superior brightness.
The LG B is visibly thinner than the nine-millimeter-thick iPhone 4. While the tipster who posted the photos didn’t include a tape measure for comparison, by doing a little pixel-counting we can estimate that the B measures just under 8mm at its thickest.
Despite its tiny profile, the B’s four-inch screen shines like a spotlight, even compared to AMOLED displays known for their brightness and contrast. If the specifications provided along with pictures are accurate, LG may have come up with a screen that can be more than twice as bright as its peers, while not incurring any battery-draining penalties.
Unfortunately, right now that’s the extent of what we know about the B. While the screen may be brighter and larger than an iPhone’s, it could still come up short in the resolution department. We’re also left guessing about what kind of processing punch the B will pack; it wouldn’t make sense to waste this sleek hardware on a lower-end CPU, so 1GHz seems a safe bet, but by when the handset finally comes out, we could be living in a time where 1.5GHz dual-core phones are the ones to measure up against. LG is already leading the dual-core movement, but we can’t tell yet if the B will also be a member of that group.
