LauncherPro is one of my two favorite homescreen replacement apps. It’s lightweight, fast, full of awesome features, and the developer is very, very responsive. Unfortunately he’s hit a wall with how far he can push the current version, due to the foundation upon which its built. His solution? Rewrite it from scratch — no small undertaking.

While the developer is working that angle, progress on his existing app has slowed. His last update was over a month ago. Not wanting to let his loyal fans down, he’s working on some updates to the existing app that are sure to impress.

Within the next week or so LauncherPro Plus users should see a Gmail widget, allowing quick access to email aggregated with Gmail right on one of your homescreens.

Possibly before we see the Gmail widget, according to reports, we’ll likely see fancy screen transition animations, much like those in ADW Launcher EX.
