“Motorola is infringing our patents and we are confident that the ITC will rule in our favor”, said David Howard, Microsoft’s corporate vice president and deputy general counsel for litigation back in August. The ITC didn’t disappoint as an initial ruling finds that Motorola is infringing on one.

The patent in case refers to “generating meeting requests and group scheduling from a mobile device” but, as Florian Mueller points out, this is an initial determination; the final ruling could go either way. Still, if a final ruling turns out to be similar, Motorola (and Google, together with the rest of OEMs) will have to find a way around as scheduling meetings from mobile devices is very common in the fast-paced world we are living in.
