After Google released the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich SDK — complete with the ICS emulator — we all knew it was only a matter of time before the bits were forced into hardware.

Earlier, Brandon showed us how to run the emulator on our PCs, and then how another SDK port works on his Nexus S. Now we’ve got a group of developers who are taking some time off from working on MIUI development to port ICS to the Samsung Galaxy S.

In its current “very-alpha” state not everything is working, and like other ports, we expect that it won’t be fully optimized for the hardware upon which it’s running — which equates to lag and crashes.

Since Google hasn’t released the source code yet — and probably won’t for at least a few months after the Galaxy Nexus is released on November 17th, developers wanting to get a head-start at development have no other option.
