Samsung revealed its Galaxy Ace back in January, leading up to the Mobile World Congress. While the evolution of smartphone hardware now makes the Ace sound like a low-end handset, it was still in the middle of the pack earlier this year. The handset was released in Asia and Europe, and received an update to Gingerbread over the summer. Now, the hardware has been tapped to become another smartphone to receive a brand-name makeover, joining the likes of the LG Jil Sander phone and the Porsche Design P’9981 BlackBerry as a Hugo Boss-branded handset.
As should be no surprise, the phone’s hardware specs have not been changed compared to the original Galaxy Ace. That means the Hugo Boss phone will run an 800MHz processor, have a 3.5-inch HVGA screen, and feature a five-megapixel rear camera.
Cosmetically, the Hugo Boss Galaxy Ace gets a matte black finish. The rear texture of the phone looks different from the Ace we’re familiar with, and it appears that the shiny metal band surrounding the phone’s edge has been replaced with a more subdued, gray component. It may be difficult to get excited about the phone’s tech specs, but we’ve got to admit that these small changes to the facade are pretty smart-looking.
The phone’s Hugo Boss connection manifests itself on the device as a few fashion-related apps, wallpapers, and a conveniently-placed link to the company’s website. Sales begin in France for the equivalent of about $380, off-contract.
