Locking down bootloaders is unfortunately becoming the rule with some smartphone manufacturers after Motorola started the game — but promises to unlock in late 2011. Sony Ericsson is taking the right approach unlocking them but apparently HTC has applied locks to the bootloaders of a couple devices including the Incredible S — Sensation appears to be locked too as well as the upcoming EVO 3D.
HTC recently posted a note on its Facebook page in response to user inquiries. “We’re reviewing the issue and our policy around bootloaders and will provide more information soon”. Doesn’t sound like a commitment but at least HTC is aware of the negative feedback and is acknowledging it. Whether it will actually do something about the issue or not is a question for the future but with many nowadays’ Android users having an unlocked bootloader is a must.
