A couple days ago, we heard about the availability of an Ice Cream Sandwich update for HTC’s Velocity in Australia. As the Velocity is the same hardware as the Vivid on AT&T in the States and the Raider on other networks around the globe, we’ve been hoping we might hear more about the update hitting some other carriers. Notifications may not be going out just yet, but with a little dialer magic, you might have some luck getting ICS on a Vivid today.
Right now, this is pretty hit-and-miss, with some users reporting success, and others not seeing anything happen. From your Vivid, dial *#*#682#*#* in order to force your phone to check for updates. With any luck, your phone will start looking for updates in just a matter of seconds.
AT&T insists that it hasn’t started any official push of the update, but some users on the network report succeeding all the same. The update, weighing-in around 300MB, brings the Vivid up to Android 4.0.3 and installs the new Sense 3.6, HTC’s Sense 4.0 compromise for existing handsets. The only thing we’re left wondering is when AT&T is going to flip the switch and formally start sending the new code to its users.
