Earlier this week, we got a look at what was supposed to be a screenshot taken of an online retailer displaying the anticipated HTC Vigor in its system. Text on the page claimed the smartphone would be available in 1-2 months. That would have been some useful information to come across, were any of it actually true. The site the information supposedly was posted to is now speaking up, pointing out how this is clearly a hoax.

The image is made to look like it came from The Phone House. While it may look fine to someone unfamiliar with the site, the company’s marketing manager explained just where it fails. For starters, the image of the supposed Vigor is far too large for the site. Compare it with an actual screenshot taken from The Phone House below to see the scale that’s really used. There’s also no mention of the phone’s color, which is always posted underneath its picture.

The “1-2 month” availability claim is a red flag as well, since apparently the site’s database doesn’t have an entry for that specific timeframe. Looking closer, it’s clear that the yellow “Verwachte…” text is a pixel or so below where it should be, revealing this isn’t even an HTML edit but a Photoshop job. We hope whoever was behind this enjoyed his or her little prank. As for us, we’ll keep waiting for some legit news of the Vigor’s launch.
