Most of the recent news we’ve been looking at has stemmed form the Consumer Electronics Show, but all the old avenues for finding smartphone news are still open. One of the ways we sometimes learn of new devices is through filings with regulatory agencies, and today’s no different. An HTC Velocity 4G has received its GCF certification, showing-off its frequency support in the process.

The terminology here is a little different than we’re used to seeing. UTRA FDD is the same as W-CDMA, the 3G technology we’re used to seeing on GSM networks. E-UTRA FDD, on the other hand, refers to LTE technology. This collection of frequencies shows a phone not intended for release in the US; those UTRA FDD bands I and VIII, for example, are the 900MHz and 2100MHz bands used in Europe, Asia, and elsewhere.

In addition to that GCF data, a leaked flyer descres its other hardware specs. Those include a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 16GB of flash, and an eight-megapixel camera. We keep hearing the Velocity referred to as having a five-inch screen, but this material clearly describes it as 4.5 inches. From the pics we’ve seen, this looks like it’s HTC Vivid hardware, which would support the idea of a 4.5-inch display.

It looks like an Australian launch is imminent, but where it will go next, we can’t say.
