Last month’s HTC Thunderbolt update brought the phone some newly-enhanced performance when connected over a 3G network, but like bedbugs hitching a ride on your suitcase, the update also introduced new glitches that caused the phones of some users to start spontaneously resetting. Thankfully, it now looks like Verizon has a plan in place to deal with the problem, culminating with the release of a new software update later this month.
A leaked Verizon memo reveals the company’s directions to its employees who have to deal with customer complaints about the “occasional device power cycling/resetting”. Apparently, if you’re vocal enough about your dissatisfaction with your Thunderbolt’s behavior post-update, Verizon is authorizing its employees to hook you up with a certified like-new replacement. If the resets you’ve been experiencing aren’t quite so annoying as to drive you to request a CLNR, Verizon advises you to stick it out and wait for the next Thunderbolt software to arrive, which the carrier is scheduling for sometime in the final two weeks of June.
Unfortunately, we don’t get any new insight into just what’s causing the issue, and there’s not even a temporary fix available, but it’s good to know that Verizon and HTC seem to be on top of things. We’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed that this next update doesn’t introduce any new bugs of its own.
