HTC Thunderbolt owners have been suffering from a string of random resets since installing an update to their phones in early May. Sadly, we didn’t see any kind of decisive action on Verizon or HTC’s part, so Thunderbolt users have been forced to just grin and bear it thus far. A leaked Verizon memo made it clear that the carrier was aware of the issue and was prepping its support staff for how to handle inquires regarding it, but there was still no fix. Supposedly, an update to correct the reset issue was going to arrive in the second half of June. Then we started hearing talk about a dual reset-fix / Gingerbread 2.3.4 update, also supposed to show up by the end of June, or if not then, at least sometime soon. Now there’s evidence that the fix is finally coming out tonight, but it may not be what you were hoping for.
A leaked Verizon screenshot shows that the Thunderbolt update will be available as of this evening at 8 p.m. Eastern time. Nearly forgotten amidst a list of less interesting fixes and changes, we see that the update should bring a “reduced number of device power cycles and resets”. Well, “reduced” is good, we suppose, even if there’s still the occasional glitch.
Now for the bad news: no Gingerbread. That’s not to say that it isn’t coming soon it sure as heck sounded like it was from the statements we’ve heard so far it just won’t be here tonight.
