Good news for HTC Legend owners, as the Taiwanese manufacturer has announced via Facebook that the Froyo update for this device is almost complete. According to HTC, unlocked / unbranded Legends can expect to get Android 2.2 sometime in the next few weeks, while carrier-purchased handsets are at the mercy of individual network providers: each carrier must put the ROM through its own testing (and add in its own bloatware) before pushing it out to its subscribers.
Released earlier this year with Android 2.1, the Legend is 600MHz-powered slate with 3.2-inch HVGA AMOLED display and 384MB of RAM, meaning that the Froyo experience probably won’t be quite the same as on more powerful, higher resolution devices such as the Droid X or Galaxy S. Still, the new JIT compiling alone should breath some new life into the aging Legend, likely boosting performance by several magnitudes in some areas.
