The HTC Fireball first showed-up on our radar back at the end of last year, when a Verizon leak included both that code name and the phone’s model number. We didn’t hear much more about the Fireball until February, upon an image of the phone surfacing, and revealing it to look very much like a Droid Incredible model. We thought it might arrive as the Droid Incredible 4G, since that name had been in use by manufacturers of phone accessories, and sure enough, a later Verizon leak seemed to confirm that name. We’re now wondering if the phone’s name might still be in flux, and there could be a small change in store before Verizon finally announces the model.
Just like earlier, we’re looking to accessory manufacturers for information on the once-Fireball’s new name. Our finding today comes from an established company in the field, one that would be likely to have reliable information on the phone prior to its release. According to its latest accessory listings, the Fireball won’t be coming to Verizon as the Droid Incredible 4G, but as the Droid Incredible 4G LTE.
As changes go, that’s far from substantial, but it very well may be our first look at the name this Android will adopt as it makes its retail debut. We’ve heard that could be as soon as April 26, so we might hope to learn something from Verizon itself in the very near future.
