Both last year’s HTC EVO 4G on Sprint and the fresh Thunderbolt on Verizon are set to receive their Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread treat sometime this upcoming second quarter, according to an e-mail from HTC in response to a customer inquiry.
Initially shipping with Android 2.1 Eclair, then upgraded to Froyo, the EVO 4G will get Gingerbread “in the second quarter of 2011 (anywhere from the beginning of April, to the end of June)”, said an HTC rep. The same time-frame applies to the Froyo powered Thunderbolt too. HTC has been solid in offering platform updates to its devices so a Q2 Gingerbread update, even if it will be June, will definitely testify to that commitment the Taiwanese manufacturer has made. Hopefully there will be no delays, but then again, there were no official announcements either.
