Back at the beginning of the week, HTC started to make good on its commitment to start unlocking the bootloaders for some of its models by the end of August. That took care of the Sensation, but what about the Sensation 4G and EVO 3D? It’s looking very much like the manufacturer will hit its end-of-the-month deadline, announcing that its unlock tool now supports the EVO 3D on Sprint.
While the Sensation was ready to go for go for unlocking as soon as HTC flipped the switch, the EVO 3D will require a software update first. It’s not immediately clear if HTC is talking about one of the updates for the phone that have been released so far this summer, or the 2.08.651.2 update we’ve heard is planned for next week. If it’s the former, and you’ve been keeping on top of updates, your EVO 3D should be already good to go.
Sure, you’ll have to acknowledge that this low-level fiddling may void your new phone’s warranty, but once you decide to make the plunge, you’ll just have to hook your EVO 3D up to your PC, generate an unlock code through HTC’s developer website, and your smartphone will be all set to start getting into the world of custom Android ROMs. All we need now is for HTC to bring the service to the Sensation 4G.
