Verizon published some support documents last week in anticipation of an upcoming software release for the HTC Droid Incredible 2, upgrading the smartphone to Gingerbread. Though the carrier had all the pieces in place, it had managed to avoid revealing just when the code would finally go live, and users would start receiving notifications that the update was ready for download and installation. Luckily for Incredible 2 owners, it’s only been a short wait, as just a few days later, Verizon has begun distribution.
System software 2.18.605.4 is a decent-sized 116MB download, including a host of fixes, tweaks, and utilities unique to the Incredible 2 above and beyond the normal assortment of Gingerbread improvements. We touched on a few them when first looking at the planned software release, like better network performance when using the Incredible 2 internationally on GSM-based networks.
If you’re not seeing the update available just yet, give it some time, as your phone may be back at the end of the distribution list. Have faith; it’s on its way soon. For now, you can check out Verizon’s release documentation if you want to familiarize yourself with just what you can expect from the update.
