A month ago HTC officially announced that it will be no longer locking down bootloaders on future smartphones and that it will try to retroactively unlock, to the best of its knowledge, relatively fresh smartphones that have the lock applied.
Of course there are lots of angry EVO 3D owners that have the bootloader locked on their new smartphones. Turning to HTC for support, the company has replied that it is “diligently working” on unlocking it with an announcement due when the project is over. Until then you will have to settle for the possibility of uninstalling applications without the need of a root, which by itself is already a great step to support users.
