HTC announced the two Facebook phones, the ChaCha and the Salsa with the occasion of this year’s Mobile World Congress and it looks like the hardware and software are now final as Amazon UK has them both on pre-order and reportedly shipping on June 26.
We already knew the ChaCha will land on T-Mobile UK this June but according to Amazon UK’s pre-order page, they will ship on the 26th of next month. You’ll have to pay £249.99 for the ChaCha (around $409.10) and £319.99 (around $523.66) for the Salsa which is pricey but that’s the price you will pay for an unlocked smartphone. Once carriers pick them up, expect the prices to be close to those you’re accustomed to.
The HTC ChaCha features a full QWERTY keyboard that reminds of the old HTC Snap. It’s packing a small 2.6-inch HVGA 480×320 display, is 10.7mm thick and features a 600MHz Qualcomm single core CPU with 512MB of RAM and ROM. The camera has five megapixels with no HD video recording support and there is also a front-facing camera for video chat, all powered by the 1230mAh battery.
The HTC Salsa is also running a Qualcomm 600MHz CPU with 512MB of RAM and ROM. The screen is somewhat larger, 3.4-inches with HVGA 480×320 resolution. The camera on the back is the same as the ChaCha’s and can take photos at five megapixels still without HD video recording. There’s also a front-facing camera for video chat and a huge 1520mAh battery.
