Looking through filings at the US Patent and Trademark office, we came across an interesting application made by HTC. It looks like HTC is trying to patent a new feature for an upcoming version of Sense (presumably) which will allow you to specify the thumbnail for a shortcut to a web page. The official title is “Method and system for saving internet bookmark”, dated April 15 2010. Currently in Sense, if you use the Bookmarks widget, you don’t have a choice of how the little website preview appears. Sometimes you’ll get an inappropriate part of the site, like some random text, instead of a segment that properly describes the contents of the site, like a logo. This function could be used either in the bookmark section of the site, or within the widgets used for the home screens.
