April Fools: HTC and Twitter Announce Twitter Phone

Back in February we told you about two smartphones that HTC and Facebook teamed up on the HTC Salsa and HTC Cha Cha. Apparently that ruffled Twitter’s feathers and today HTC and Twitter announced a Twitter Phone almost identical to the HTC Cha Cha Facebook Phone.

The HTC Tata features a full QWERTY keyboard and a compact 2.6″ HVGA 480×320 display, like the Cha Cha. Unlike the Cha Cha, the Tata doubles the RAM and ROM to 1GB each. Although the CPU is only 600MHz it’s a new Qualcomm dual-core CPU that we haven’t previously seen.

In addition to the latest version of HTC Sense and Android Gingerbread 2.3.3, the HTC Tata comes preloaded with a new version of the Twitter app and a new HTC Sense widget built specifically for Twitter.

Pricing has not yet been announced, but HTC expects the Tata to be available both in the U.S. as well as Europe and Asia by the end of the month.
