Google Nexus One owners may have been expecting to get Gingerbread a little earlier than they did, with a couple months between the release of Android 2.3 and the update for their phones. Despite that initial wait, Google came through with the software in February, bringing the company’s first experiment into phone sales up to date with the Nexus S. Unfortunately, it looks like not all has been well with Gingerbread on the Nexus One, as some users have been running into problems with voice calls, and Google may not be taking the issue as seriously as we might hope.
The problem manifests itself as a delay at the beginning of voice calls when the Nexus One seems shut off from the call, during which users are unable to hear the person on the other end of the line. Anything they try saying during this brief period gets dropped as well, with the other party hearing nothing the Nexus One users says. This all reportedly lasts for about two to three seconds.
While this definitely isn’t an isolated case, it does appear to be far from a common problem, with only some users affected. Still, we would expect Google to be all over fixing a problem like this in one of its own products. Instead, after dozens of users posted their bug reports to Google’s tracker, all the company has managed to do is tell them that they need to post bugs as Nexus One issues rather than general Gingerbread issues; not exactly helpful. We look forward to someone at Google finally taking responsibility for following this problem through to resolution, and getting its users the fix they need.
