Google Maps is fantastic for finding your way around an unfamiliar town, and getting information on local restaurants, businesses, and attractions, but it’s been a bit lacking in helping you learn about more fleeting entertainment in the area. While it may have no problem telling you all about a nearby farmer’s market, there hasn’t been a good way to learn about things that aren’t so permanent, like events. That’s starting to change with the latest edition of the Android app, released today.
Now, you’ll be able to get live updates on local events in select cities. Those covered initially include New York, San Francisco, Paris, Zurich, and London. Google hasn’t talked much about this new feature yet, so we’re unsure of its future plans, but it stands to reason that we might hope to see that list grow significantly in future releases.
If you live near, or are planning on traveling through one of the metropolitan areas listed above, be sure you’ve updated your Google Maps, and then get started checking out what events are going down around town.
