Google Maps for Android 1.6 and above has been updated to version 4.7 and the update is all about places and recommendations as it now includes HotSpot, the new local recommendation engine that enables users to find recommended places based on other people’s reviews.
There’s a new Rating Widget you can add to you Android smartphone that will allow you to write reviews and ratings from the phone, which will not only personalize your search results and tailor them according to what you like but will also serve as a reference for all your friends you add to HotSpot helping them find cool places based on your recommendations. Adding friends will also help you find cool places they have liked so it works both ways.
Download and install the update from the Market — International users, given it’s available in your region — and if you’re an iPhone user, stay tuned for similar features coming soon in the shape of a Places app to your phone.
