With the release of each new version of Android, Google’s been adding to the sculpture collection at its Mountain View, CA campus. This time last year, it got its Gingerbread statue, followed just a few months later by one depicting Honeycomb. Now, with the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich nearly upon us, a new Android, seemingly stamped out of a giant ice cream sandwich, has arrived to join them.

The statue looks very cool, but we can’t deny that what we’d really like to see is the actual announcement of the operating system, along with Samsung’s Nexus Prime to accompany it. After the cancellation of the planned CTIA event, rumors have been trying to tack this announcement on to pretty much everything scheduled for Samsung’s calendar. We’ve heard Hong Kong, we’ve heard London; the only consistent theme seemed to be the belief that news will come sooner rather than later.

Samsung just put an end to all that guesswork, sending out notices that it will have an announcement coming on October 19 at its Hong Kong event. While still trying to be less-than-explicit about what’s to be revealed, the presence of an Ice Cream Sandwich Android graphic on the invite leaves little to the imagination.
