It certainly seems like Google provides its own version of nearly every online service under the sun, but there’s a bit of a gap when it comes to the company’s cloud storage offerings. Sure, files that arrive as email attachments get to continue living on Gmail servers, and Google lets you upload and store songs through Google Music, but there’s yet to be any universal storage system from the company. We heard some rumors last month about Google’s supposed work on such a project, and later saw a screenshot purporting to show the results of Google’s efforts, identified as Google Drive. Today, some new rumors about the service arrive, and attempt to offer a few more details.

Supposedly, Google is preparing to launch Drive sometime next month. Specifically, these rumors point to sometime during the first week of April, meaning Google Drive could already be nearly here.

One of the big questions we’re going to have when looking at any cloud storage service is about the capacity it offers users. According to the sources behind today’s rumors, Google’s storage cutoff might be a bit on the low side of things, with a 1GB max for its free accounts. Of course, you could pay more for additional space, but something about that free figure still doesn’t sound quite right to us. Considering Google will host 20,000 songs for you, or let you store over 7GB in your Gmail account, we’d expect a higher limit for even free Google Drive storage.
