For months now, we’ve been hearing rumors about Google’s plans to branch-out from having only smartphones released under its name to also include tablets. There have been a lot of consistencies with the reports so far, often claiming that the device will have a seven-inch display, and there have been multiple mentions of ASUS as a potential manufacturer. We’ve also heard that the plans were to get the tablet out sometime in May, but a new rumor out this morning claims that Google is delaying the release until July in the hopes of making some last-minute adjustments.

Supposedly, the impetus behind these tweaks is a desire to reduce manufacturing expenses, and ultimately offer the tablet at a lower price point. We’ve heard a couple ranges for possible prices mentioned, but lately it’s been sounding like something up around $250 could be likely. Google’s reportedly very interested in keeping that figure down; there’s no word on if it has a goal price in mind, but there have been suggestions that it doesn’t want to break $200. Even at the price, the tablet is supposed to feature a quad-core Tegra 3 chip; maybe NVIDIA wasn’t so unrealistic about its predictions for low-cost tablets, after all.
