Back at the beginning of the month, we learned that Google employees with Nexus S phones were lucking-out, and becoming the recipients of early Ice Cream Sandwich updates. Now the rest of you can join in on the Android 4.0 fun, as Google announced this afternoon the start of OTA distribution for the Nexus S’s update.
Google took to Twitter to announce the news, noting that the update will start to go out today, and proceed to reach Nexus S phones around the globe over the course of the next month. This update is only applicable to the original GSM Nexus S; there’s no word on when users of the Nexus S 4G on Sprint might hope to see a similar Android 4.0 release.
In preparation for Nexus S users installing the update, Google has updates its Nexus S support pages with instructions showing the steps you’ll need to take to perform some common actions under the new platform revision.
We’ve seen some alpha or beta “demo” releases of Ice Cream Sandwich updates, but this marks the arrival of the first full-on version going out to the general public.
