Just one day after the leak of Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread for Motorola’s Droid 2 and Droid X, we get the nice surprise of a pre-rooted build. Similar to their recent Atrix 4G update, this update brings with it a patch to fix the security vulnerability used for rooting many android devices (rageagainstthecage, psneuter).
Team Black Hat worked around this patch by setting up a pre-rooted updater that deploys from recovery mode, instead of the usual SBF + RSD Lite method. Flashing your device back to the stock ROM is required prior to updating. The modified update deploys rooted from the first start-up, requiring no further interaction.
While neither of these updates are distributed through official Motorola channels yet, rumor has it the release is imminent. It’s nice to know that when they are finally given the green light, root access will be ready and waiting.
