After previously stating that the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will see no further updates in terms of operating system version numbers, the company has made a blog post stating the exact contrary.
Turns out the popular Android smartphone will indeed be updated (at least that’s today’s stance) to Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The refresh is scheduled to hit end Q2 / early Q3 this year and “the intention is that the Xperia X10 will receive similar software and functionality that we have in our new 2011 Xperia smartphones“. Well, skipping Froyo and going straight from Eclair to Gingerbread should make a lot of customers happy so we keep our fingers crossed things won’t change again.
On the down side, the smartphone will lose a couple of functionalities (check the source link for details) and the X10 mini, X10 mini pro and X8 will not receive this update.
