The rumors surrounding Samsung’s Galaxy S III have been doing a fantastic job at keeping us guessing about the phone. There are so many different reports of the phone’s case design, its internal hardware, and software abilities, often with conflicting information, that it’s been especially difficult trying to identify where the glimmers of truth may lie. Some of the latest gossip even has us doubting if the phone will even arrive under the Galaxy S III name. Today some new pictures of an unknown Samsung arrive, and while they may not be the GS3 as it will launch, they also might just be the closest look at the phone we’ve seen yet.

Gizmodo Brazil published these images of what’s supposedly the Samsung GT-i9300. That model number is one we’ve associated time and time again with the Galaxy S III. Before you get too excited about the super-smudgy handset in these pics, The Verge has heard from one of its sources that this is not, in fact, the GS3 as we’ll see it. The source adds that so far, none of the publicly released photographs or renders has gotten the phone right just yet.

We had heard earlier that Samsung might be testing the phone under some pretty serious obfuscation, including a case shell that disguised the true hardware within. According to the source, this is just such a tester. By itself, it may not tell us much, but with any luck we might get the chance to see one of these babies powered-on and in-action soon.
