A new series of FCC documents has been published, this time pertaining to an unannounced Samsung model. The SGH-T839 looks to be an Android device that will run on T-Mobile’s network, and if the rumors we’ve heard are true, it could end up with the moniker “Nightwing”.
Aside from the naming strategy Samsung is known to use with its model numbers, the presence of support for the 1700MHz AWS frequency band confirms that the T839 will end up on T-Mobile in the States. Before making this FCC appearance, the phone has shown up getting its Bluetooth and WiFi certifications.
The best information about what to expect from the T839 comes from a configuration document retrieved from a Samsung server. Here we see mention of the phone running the Android browser, confirming the model as a smartphone. We’ve heard almost everywhere else that the T839 will only have a 320 x 480 screen (likely the same rumor, repeated down the line), but this file reports the phone having a much more impressive 480 x 800 display. Beyond that, the only interesting spec of note is that the phone will be powered by an ARM 11 processor at an unspecified clock speed.
We can’t say what T-Mobile’s plans are, or if it intends to go forward with the rumored Nightwing name, but these FCC documents suggest that the phone is well on its way to becoming a reality.
