One of the coolest things about the HTC EVO 4G is its HDMI-out port which, one would think, lets you watch whatever is on your Evo’s screen on whatever it’s plugged into. Unfortunately, only specific apps with custom coding could output via HDMI.
Various app developers got to work trying to change this, and initially did, but at the cost of requiring a rooted device running a custom kernel. With the recent update to FullHDMI, that’s no longer the case — but there are a few catches.
FullHDMI 1.3.1 is now available and allows for HDMI mirroring without any down-and-dirty hackery. Resolutions of 800×600 and lower will work right away, but if you want to go HD you’ll still need a custom kernel to “unlock” 720p output. While it’s not ideal, this is probably the “best of both worlds” solution.
