October 27 was the day we’ve heard official wording that Sony is preparing to buy Ericsson’s share in the joint venture, after a decade-long run. We later heard plans from the Japanese company according to which the rebranding and phasing out of Sony Ericsson will be made by mid-2012.
The European Commission, the executive body of the European Union, approved the takeover on Friday. One of the CES news about the plans for the company’s future was that Sony Ericsson will be rebranded as Sony Mobile Communications. All devices which will be announced and released will be only wearing the “Sony” branding — and there’s the Xperia S to prove it. With the recent nod from the European Commission, yet another bump in the road has been successfully removed.
