Samsung Fascinate update ED04, which dropped a couple weeks back, was kind of a let-down feature-wise, especially with Fascinate owners already craving Gingerbread after getting Froyo just two months ago. Now, we still don’t know when you might expect an official update ready for OTA distribution, but an early build of Gingerbread for the Fascinate has leaked.
You’ll need to use Samsung’s Odin tool to flash the leaked ROM to your phone, after which you can root system via a few ADB commands. Fascinate owners who have had the chance to run the ROM note that it’s more or less working, though some applications are affected by bugs leading to FCs. Other problems are the kind of issues you see with early builds like this, like some apps not showing in the Android Market because they’re not expecting a Fascinate to be running Android 2.3.
If you’re curious despite those incompatibilities, you can get the files you need through the MyDroidWorld forum link below, along with a Froyo image to help you bring your Fascinate back to an official state if you decide that this work-in-progress Gingerbread build needs to go back in the oven a little longer.
Knowing Samsung and its history with timely updates, you could still have quite the wait in store until there’s an official Gingerbread release available; we’ll keep you updated as we learn what the timetable might be.
