Late last week, we looked into a rumor that claimed Verizon subscribers would be seeing some Ice Cream Sandwich updates headed their way this week, with both the Motorola Droid RAZR and the HTC Rezound supposed to be making the journey to Android 4.0. Supposedly sourced to an internal Best Buy news posting, the rumor had the Rezound’s update not landing until this Friday, but the RAZR’s was on-tap for today. With no reports yet of any such updates going out OTA, nor any sign of an update on Verizon’s site, it’s starting to look like this one’s busted. Some RAZR owners have since reached out to Motorola via Twitter, hoping to get some insight into what’s going on.
Unsurprisingly, Motorola doesn’t have anything to say about the rumor itself. According to the PR stonewall of the company’s Twitter account, Motorola has no release date it’s willing to share publicly at the moment. The one glimmer of hope it did offer is that new information on the RAZR’s ICS update will be made available “soon”. Granted, that’s a very non-committal commitment, and could mean anything from next week to a couple months down the road.
With this rumor apparently shattered, we’re not holding out much hope for seeing the Rezound get ICS on Friday.
