The DROID 2 Global is an interesting beast. Instead of being a GSM phone (which essentially would make it a “global” device by definition), it uses Verizon’s cellular network in the U.S., and allows you to use GSM elsewhere. (Unfortunately, users are reporting that U.S. GSM users can’t simply pop in their SIM from another carrier and use the DROID 2 Global state-side.)

The 15.6MB update (which brings the phone up to version 2.4.330) includes fixes and better functionality when used “globally”, along with some audio improvements to voice calls made or received anywhere, regardless of location.

Improvements

- Device now prepends 011 to Country Code to send SMS messages

- Device no longer indicates “No Service” after powering up

- Device no longer resets when changing from Global Mode to GSM/UMTS communication

- Device now refreshes the user interface display when switching from GSM/UMTS to Global Mode

- Eliminated the blank screen when dialing the call forwarding string *71

- Improved audio during voice calls

- Reduced user interface lock-ups
